Designing Your Kitchen
Since we are custom cabinet makers, we can design your kitchen to fit your individual taste and needs. We offer computerized designs to help decide the layout of the kitchen; how many cabinets can comfortably fit into your space, how to effectively place the appliances and how to maximize storage and work space.
The design of the cabinet doors makes all the difference in the look of your
kitchen. There is a wide variety of woods and styles to choose from.
Types of wood -
Oak is one of the more traditional woods that is hard and durable.
Maple is a hard wood that has a tighter grain. This gives a
more consistent look. It is light in color.
Cherry has a rich visual texture. It tends to redden with age.
Hickory has a similar look to oak, showing alot of variation
from the grain and mineral deposits.
Pine is a softer wood that absorbs stain more readily. It often
shows knots that add character to the wood.
Poplar is a hardwood that is often painted.
Door styles -
The style of the door can define the feel of your room as much as the type of
wood. There are a few basic styles and each has within it lots of different
characteristics. The basic styles are:
raised panel - Raised panel is one of the more common, and
still most popular, styles of door front for cabinets. It is the traditional
style that has been used for generations. It’s made by framing a beveled
panel. A wide variety of panel designs may be used.
flat panel -To make a flat paneled door, we start with a flat
piece of wood, and frame that in. The difference in visual texture is very noticeable,
and can give a slightly more contemporary feel to a kitchen or bath.
slab -This style of door can create a look that is either rustic
or more modern, depending on the type of hardware used. The slab front doors
are a simple, flat door front that is made up of slats of wood that have been
laminated together.
Other considerations for your kitchen are the hardware for your cabinets,
countertops and appliances. Countertops are typically built using solid surface,
tile, plastic laminate or granite. We are happy to discuss these options with
you. You can view a wide array of appliance options on our Resource
page.
